In forming Stonetree, the successor to SPC Capital Management, the Firm has built an exceptionally experienced investment team with over 50 years of investment experience. The following are brief bios of the team:
Patrick J. Casey, CFA, Managing Member, focuses on research, management of general partnerships, overseeing the investment process and reviewing and approving investment opportunities. Mr. Casey also employs his over 30 years of investment expertise in the management of portfolio stock distributions. Mr. Casey is past Vice President and Treasurer of the Signature Group, a wholly owned financial service company of Montgomery Ward & Co. Incorporated. Responsibilities included being Chief Investment Officer for The Signature Group’s four insurance companies as well as being Chief Pension Officer for Montgomery Ward’s $1.2 billion defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Mr. Casey has had the opportunity to review and meet the principal partners of most significant venture capital and private equity limited partnerships that have come to market for the past 10 years. He has personally met with and established relationships with many managing general partners of these partnerships and has sat on the advisory committee of two partnerships. Mr. Casey was associated with Montgomery Ward for 18 years. Prior to joining Montgomery Ward, Mr. Casey was Chief Investment Officer at Federal Life Insurance Company in Chicago, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Southern Illinois University and an MBA Degree from DePaul University and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Michael S. Casey, is the Client Service Professional and Investment Analyst with responsibilities for client service, new client prospecting and analysis of both potential new investments and monitoring of existing portfolio investments. Mr. Casey consults with clients by presenting Stonetree’s investment process and discusses the details of the general partnerships their underlying investments. Michael has 12 years of sales experience, trained as a financial specialist with Wachovia Bank, and managed MSC Financial brokering investment securities between banks and their consumers. Michael handled international sales for Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD., where he was in the top 5% of volume sales in North America in his department. Michael has BA in International Relations, with additional studies in Economics, from Rollins College.
